Tell your friend to check fuel pressure, its likely the OPS (oil pressure switch) is bad, and the LP is not running, starving the IP for fuel and making it suck the fuel itself, causing premature wear.
Also best to add a lubrication boosting fuel additive like Stanadyne Lubricity formula.
To keep that OPS from burning up, get a lift pump relay harness from www.leroydiesel.com. Leroy also sells improved oil cooler lines, a better harmonic damper, and offers seal kits for the 4wd oil filter adapter and the fuel filter housing.
