Subject: Stop peas from cracking

Southeast Washington
I haven't seen this guess yet so I'll throw it out. In our area the auger flighting is hard on the peas and will crack them. When we had steel flighting on our seed auger in the truck we always had a water tank on top of the grain bin and would apply a little stream of water at the base of the auger and it stops the peas from cracking and it is amazing how much it quiets the auger down as the peas go up the auger. On our air drill I have the 4 wheeler there with the sprayer on it and spray a fine mist on the peas in the hopper as they come out of the truck to keep them from cracking as they go into the drill.

The same is with the combines in that the auger cracks peas and a few people put a water tank on the combine up high like the picture and the hose may lead down to the base of the auger on the combine to add a little moisture so peas don't crack and there is less dockage.

That is what some do around here and since the combine in the picture is cutting peas that is my guess.
