If the grain going into the bin is very clean I believe you can get along OK without a spreader, but I would be sure to pull out "X" bushels from the bin immediately after filling it to get all the finer materials out of the center and then level the top off. The peak will not cool. Not getting even air movement throughout the hot grain will give you expensive and frustrating results. Do you cool in a bin and then move it again for "final" storage? Do the final storage bins have full aeration floors? The question of filling a bin completely or partially all depends on bin diameter/depth of grain/type of aeration/cfm of the fans. Hot grain from the dryer and cooling in the bin works great but it takes good management. We did it for years with a couple hundred thousand bushels each year. Good Luck!
