Subject: RE: Shelling Ear Corn JD #71

Orange County NY
I have to shell about 40% of my ear corn. It depends on what I`m feeding at the time. Mostly alfafa haylage or mostly corn silage. The rest gets ground right out of the crib.
Since I only milk 40, plus young stock I can`t afford to buy a combine and a bin. I got this sheller for $250 about 10 yrs. ago. Works good, but makes a mess of the yard with that husk blower.
I`ve never had much trouble with the corn not rolling out of the crib. We have three. If we get a real windy snow storm sometimes it will cover the corn if the crib is less then half full. You do have to shovel the last ring.
