We run them only when we have to and mainly to bury diseases behind peanuts. That said, we have a few cotton only fields that we are plowing this year. Yields have gone down considerable. Need to bring up some fresh dirt. We run the Baker plows to bring up some clay to help keep it from blowing.
After plowing we plant wheat to hold down the sand, either for harvest or min-till. When we plant min-till we will leave a strip of about 10" were we will come in and plant cotton after terminating the wheat in the spring. This is what it will look like come spring planting time. ( or so we hope anyway) We are on a 4 year rotation plan with peanuts and some fields we go 5 years. Had a field we just took back over last year that had not grown peanuts in 10 years. Had our best yield in a long, long time. |
