Anamoose, ND | My uncle has a JD 8960 and we run a 9680 Ford New Holland. The 8960 is by far my least favorite tractor and our 9680 is at the top of my favorite list. The 8960 is harder to work on, the cab layout is poor, visibility is less. My biggest complaint about the 8960 is that it has no decelerator pedal like the Ford. Once I got used to seeding with the decelerator pedal on the headlands I am lost without it. Another great thing about the 8960 is that it has no park brake assist like earlier JD's (30, 40, 50 series), what this means is that if you put the tractor in park on anything but perfectly level ground it can and will lock in park. Without a park assist like earlier tractors, you have to go find another tractor to either pull it ahead or back to get it out of park. My 9680 might get a leaky wheel seal every now and then, but I will put up with that compared to owning a 8960. | |
