Southwest Illinois
There always seems to be that talk. Sounds like a banker who is more worried about his loan exposure than your profit potential. In southern IL only a small portion of the corn crop was in the ground on june 1 and it was raining. Lots of guys were saying they were switching to beans. A very few made huge acreage switches and a few more maybe had small acreage shifts, but overall it was probably 5-10% tops. While bean yields have been good and generally in the 50's, lots of this June corn is running 180-210 bushel so the switch didn't pay as now those guys who made huge switches are looking at 3rd year beans on some acres. Maybe we see some switch, but if we can get these fert prices to fall back to the 700 range and get corn back to 4.50 I think normal rotations will prevail. What I think is more likely is for guys to limit fert(Pand K only) applications and hold the rotation. all the coops around here say fert is not moving at all.
