Blue Earth, MN | As the weather turns favorable again, starting to see some recreational tillage again this fall in our area.
Examples:
1) Disking corn stalks after they have been stalk chopped and disk ripped. Ground will be going to soybeans next year.
2) Disk ripping corn stalks in a different direction after they have been already disk ripped. Again, ground will be going to soybeans next year.
Even the examples above make no sense in a corn on corn rotation. I think I'd just plow it.
Anyone else see any tillage that makes one wonder why spend the extra $$ in fuel, machinery wear, and time?
EDIT:
Based on the responses so far, I should have stated that I feel tillage is necessary in most areas. I just was wondering about the extra trips that people may see in their area and any justification for them.
