Central Illinois | I had a neighbor vent to me last week about a big P dealer making calls on his landlords. Now this isn't my friends P dealer, but it still irked him. My neighbor also feels that the district man is feeding this dealer info about lease arrangements and contact info to the P dealer. Now, I know they shouldn't do it, but I got to thinking about other seed companies as well. Most Asgrow/Dekalb dealers around here are fertilizer dealers, but other companies use local farmers, or their starting out sons as dealers or territory reps. Has farming become such a cuthroat business that the old farmer dealer arrangement is out of date? I have bought seed from a dealer with a company that has two young men working as reps, and both of these young men are out actively looking for land to rent in our area. The more I think about it, I am not sure I want to subsidize their farming careers.
