Subject: RE: pioneer blahs

We were given a few different Pioneer hybrids to try. We are typically all Dekalb. We did the 33F88 yesterday. It was 35-40 bushel below all three Dekalb varieties. It came out at 21-22% (planted 5/4) whereas the wettest Dekalb number was 18.5%. It looked awesome, but did not yield. It was up against 61-69, 63-42, and 674. There is a reason you don't see all of these Pioneer varieties in the FIRST plots. They don't want them in there. We were very disappointed. We have one other Pioneeer number that we have not yet done. You can justify free seed for about a 20 bushel shortfall, but 30-40 is another story. The Pioneer agronomist looked at the corn this summer and knew immediately that he was beat. If you are planting all Pioneer, you are leaving a lot of money on the table.
