Chebanse, IL..... | Many people google an item & then choose the first suggestion in the google list. Not sure how some companies make the first billing, but they're quite often not really what you're looking for, though they are happy to have your business, which means happy to take your money. So, it's time to register drones. Feds started taking apps on 12/21/15. If you google drone registration, the first thing that pops up is the following site....BUT WAIT...until you read this entire post, know what's at stake. This site is NOT the FAA. It's something call "Federal Drone Registration". It is NOT the FAA. That's not wrong or illegal, but as they say, "know before you agree.....". The Federal Drone Registration folks (not the FAA) seem to be charging $24.95 to register your drone. That might be worth it, perhaps they give value for their fee...if you need it. The name of the business that pops up first when googling is federal drone registration. It's a "dot com", meaning commercial enterprise. Again, they might be really nice people...I don't know. OR....you can just go to the bona fide Federal Aviation Administration (aka FAA) site & fill out similar info for $5. As I understand it, if you register before 1/20/16, they will refund your $5 (cc transactions), making the registration free. After 1/20/16, they keep your $5 as a registration fee. Now, if you've owned a drone before 12/21/15, you've got until 2/19/16 to get it registered. We're given a couple of months of grandfather time, which is appropriate for some of us. Here's link to the official FAA drone registration site. Notice it's a "dot gov" site & not a "dot com" like the link given by the federaldroneregistration folks: https://registermyuas.faa.gov/ Happy register-ing! |
