I think you need to ask your vet about the method used, then make your decision based on the answer.

I think it also depends on the dog. I had to shoot my dog when she got down in the hindquarters and couldn't get up or walk on her own. She also was in considerable constant pain.

My dog was not comfortable dealing with people she was not used to, family and neighbors only. Our vet is a great guy, but my dog did not even like family members messing with her too much, much less people she did not know well. It would have been a traumatic experience for my dog to be restrained for the vet to even get close enough to pet her, let alone euthanize her.

Bottom line, it is your right and obligation to weigh your options and do as you see fit for your dear companion. Good luck.
