I had been testing hand shelled samples for moisture and kept getting around 22%. Old rule of thumb used to be add a point for going through combine so that would be around 23%. With weather moving in, I decided to go ahead and get something started. All loads hauled were running between 18.3 and 19.8%, now I wish I would have been going earlier. Rain is taking over. My drying bins have electric heaters and don't seem to work well on corn over 20%, thats why I was waiting for drier corn. Good Luck to everyone still harvesting and be safe.
Looks like you need a new moisture tester...The $200 and under ones are really not that accurate. The only one I've found to be elevator sample accurate is the DickeyJohn mink-GAK. If you get the Plus model it also gives you test weight. It is over $550 though... |
