Western Nebraska | Had she been one to graze the volunteer into the ground? There is a possibility, depending on how much of the volunteer that she got that it could have been grass tetany. If she was just grazing oats volunteer I might have a harder time believing it was nitrate poisoning. If it is nitrate poisoning the mucus membranes are supposed to turn blue. I might be wrong, but unless you way over fertilized your oats I am not sure that they could have accumulated that much nitrate that it could kill a cow grazing on volunteer.
