Garner Iowa
we repowered our 1977 4430 with a 466 motor from an 8820 combine, worked well, but not enough tractor behind the power. We only use the tractor as a loader tractor anymore, so it will never get hurt. We also owned a 4630 as well, which did infact make a good grain cart tractor, much heavier drawbar than a 4430. as everyone else said, drawback is the 1000 pto, plus with the synchro range trans, the 4430 is easier to shift, not sure why but that was our opinion. They are both a wonderful tractor, but for your requirements i would suggest the 4630 or a 4440. the 40 series had the heavier rearend, drawbar, 3 pt ect. Might pay a little more for the 40, but you will be a couple years newer with that tractor.
Happy shopping, you may be coming into a buyers market in the near future... If i can make a suggestion, if you buy a 30 series, make sure you get a 1977 model, that was the last year for the 30 series, if im not mistaken.
