Subject: Soil probing eqipment

I'm looking into variable rate fertilizer for the 2009 season. One problem I'm up against is that the company I'm involved with is charging $100 per soil sample. I'm figuring in my fields I'm going to have 3-5 different zones, each with there own sample. Which is leading to a heck of alot of money just for soil sampling. Does any one do their own soil sampling with a powered soil probe that mounts on a tractor or a pickup? Are there any brands or makes that are working well? I've already checked with a soil lab and their charge is $12.50 for the actual test.
