Subject: Cargill "Pork Works" program

Quincy, IL
I would like some input from some of you that have experience with the Cargill program. As I understand they will bring in pigs around 45# which will work well for me as I do not have the labor for wean-finish. They are telling me I should see a return of about $42/Head-space on average. I assume they are figuring interest costs, normal health issues, death loss, etc into these numbers? I currently custom finish and take pigs from ~ 60 up to 275 and FE/ADG has been about 2.7 and 1.8 respectively with < 3% death loss, will the Cargill pigs do this well or better?

Is pig health good in general, can you reject/deduct for poor pigs? Are the pigs vaccinated before they arrive? Re-stocking and load-out timing, is this set by the grower or do they send trucks at all hours? As I understand they recommend hedging the pigs and feed when the pigs come in, does this leave enough margin to attain the $42/head-space? How does the pig-flow typically work, 18 week cycle, 20 week cycle?

TIA for help.
