Subject: RE: ear corn storage

Depends alot on the type of crib. If you are putting it into a round crib, definately not at that moisture. A long wooden crib that has a width of ten feet or less and is exposed to the wind for air flow, would work at that moisture. The least amount of trash and shelled corn that you put in there, the better. Testing just the shelled corn does'nt tell the whole story either. The cob could retain moisture which can make or break the end condition of the corn. This is a better way, "tried and true", pick ten random ears of corn and take the husks off. Float them in a tank of water at least two feet deep ( cattle tank). If 8 out of 10 float, the corn will absolutely keep. If a couple more only have one end at the surface AND you want to use a round crib, better wait a few days. Information comes from 40 years of experience !
