Northeast Arkansas | I farm in Northeast Arkansas. We've not had a good year either. Mine, and alot of other people's earliest rices was rocked by Ike. 60 mph winds with 75 mph gusts shattered alot of hybrid. Tech man says I lost 30 plus bushels. I hear tale of a lot of 125-150 bu. yields. The later rice, planted in mid to late May has been some better, but not the 200 plus you heard last year. I just can't buy that rice yield in Arkansas is only three hundred pounds less than last year.
Everyone tells me that the fundamentals are there for a rebound in price. I've sold about 25% of mine for a decent price. My main question is this...Should I sell what I have left, which barely meets my financial obligations, or hold and hope to clear some money?
I remember in the late 90's, an Asian market collapse happened and we had $5.00 cwt for the next year or so. Can that happen again?
Any help would be appreciated. | |
