Thumb of Michigan | If I understand your question, I think you're correct in assuming that a yield hit (if there is in fact one in your area) has already happened.
We never thought we experianced a yield hit that we could attribute to no-till. BUT we had 4 or 5 crops in the rotation at that time. I think that helped a lot. I realize that multiple crops aren't feasible everywhere, but there are a lot of options cover crop wise. I'd certainly try something along those lines before resorting to tillage if no-till is currently working pretty well for you.
Not sure where you're from, I do know a couple of farms in NE Indiana that have been successful with long term no-till. I can give you some names if you'd like to contact them. | |
