I sort of enjoyed using a knife puller when we grew beans, but that certainly wasn't always the best way. I did the cultivating as well as the pulling, so that may have helped some on making the puller work. We got out of dry beans about the time Picketts were becoming more common. They work nice, but many complained about the breakage in hard ground. The Picketts allowed a lot of guys to run larger hp MfWD tractors, that may have had something to do with breakage.
Beetboy, do you ever windrow beans after you pull/cut them? For those that still pull beans here, windrowing is still pretty common. Shake the dirt and leaves off a bit. But, normally, the beans and straw are much riper than it appears in your pics. Sometimes weather cooperates to make that happen, more often than not this year they get them ripe chemically. | |
