Western Nebraska
I don't know where you are located, but something to consider with planting large seed is the need to have adequate moisture to sprout them. We are in the western Nebraska panhandle and we have a lot worse emergence with large seed than we do with medium seeds. We have put that difference down to a smaller seed being able to sprout on less soil moisture. I don't know for sure that that is the reason but it is pretty consistent for us.

We use a 7000 with finger pickups. The local research station says the Case IH vac planter is the best for spacing but I have a hard time seeing that there is a significant enough difference to make it worth the extra money to go to a new planter.
