What USA is referring to is when you compare a hand shelled moisture check, to machine shelled actual harvesting, the machine shelled will be higher. The trheshing action 'squeezes' some of the water out, supposedly.

We usually figure a couple points, not 5, but then we don't usually try harvesting until it's in the low 20's. Maybe wetter corn needs a higher 'adjustment'.
