central Kentucky
Where are you located? What kind of pasture is on the ground now? Will you have pond, lake, stream or will you need to dig a well or hook up to city water? Are there fences in place? Is there a barn? I'm in Kentucky and most years we can run one cow/calf unit per acre. In some areas of the country 45 acres will only support a few head. I think most first timers underestimate the cost of setting up the facilities, fencing, etc. you have to have to make cattle work. If you don't have facilities such as the barn, fence, water etc. you will be very lucky to break even by year five.
