I should mention, these are more often county roads, lower traffic, not so much stuff in them. I'd just not want to use any machine that explodes glass.

15 years ago when they rebuilt the road they seeded the ditches with a mix that included alfalfa, really came on as that was a wet fall. For 5 years I was getting 3 cuttings off the road ditch, good feed value, that was some nice feed. The easement from the 1950's for the roadway includes being allowed to make hay on the ditches. ;) It's been common around here for a long time.
