Here in southen MN it's common to mow your own ditches, ans neighbors' ditches you get permission from, for hay. Would be terrible to start out on a ditch that's never been cleaned up, but if you mow regularly you keep the junk down.

I use a sickle bar mower, wouldn't want to run the glass through a crimper or disc mower.

I round - or sometimes square - bale it, I would not want to run the possible trash through a forage chopper. I get a lot of plastic bottles & the some odd bits of this & that. Hubcaps, odd plastic, of late some garbage bags of garbage.... Glass bottles tend to fall out into the windrow behind the baler & can be picked up the way I do it. With a crimper or spinning blades or a chopper one would get a lot of glass bits in the hay & the roadway.
