There are two ways that I am aware of to keep the wire tight. One is with an inline strainer of some type. I used the spool type strainer so that I wouldn't have to cut the wire. I have also had trouble with the spring loaded strainer coming apart when under pressure. The other way to do it is to pull it from one end. I wasn't able to find a good way to tighten the wires from the end until I was nearly done. Gripple makes a real handy tool now for tightening their splices without a stretcher that will also work to tighten the wire from the end. The problem with that method is that you have these pigtails of HT wire sticking out on your ends. As hard and nasty as this stuff is I really don't like the idea of it sticking out there to rip clothes and hide. If you cut them off once you are done, you can only tighten it once.

This certainly isn't the only way to skin this cat, it just happens to be one that worked pretty well for us.
