Radville, SK | We have a Redekop chopper on our TR97 that works very well on flax straw but we've still had to heavy harrow it into windrows and then burn it. This year if we can actually get any combining done( rain.... >:|) we're going to try cutting it as low as we can then double discing it to bury the residue as best as possible.
I'm not sure if there is a "good" way to deal with flax straw. I dislike burning it or taking it off the field, as it's high in fibre. I'd prefer to find a way to reincorporate it into the soil but it takes so long to decompose.
At least Bethune flax doesn't grow 3 or 4 feet tall like McGregor did. | |
