I actually have some dairy farming friends in Saskatchewan, that bale it, run it through thier hay buster tub grinder, and use it as bedding in the freestalls. At least I am pretty sure that it is flax straw. Looks like sawdust, but I do know that it is not sawdust.
I also believe that it burns really hot,and can be very efficient at heating home/shops if you have the proper setup for burning bales.

Think I have my info correct, good luck either way.
