Subject: RE: Value of 3000 gal liquid hog manure

Masonville, Iowa
I would have the producer test the manure B4 he applies it. We have a 10' piece of 2" PVC pipe that has a rope through the pipe. The rope is connected to a hard foam ball. We put the pipe in manure all the way to the floor, pull the rope tight and pull out and dump in a 5 gallon bucket this process is repeated in all the pumpouts. We stir the manure in bucket and fill a sample bottle. By sampling the verticle profile in various locations of the pit, we feel we get a very representatve sample of what is in the pit.
We seemed to lose a lot of N put on last fall. Year before was different.
Our manure is custom applied, when they get the rates down approaching 3000 gal/acre. The volume is low enough that the manure doesn't get dipersed evenly and the corn gets streaky.
