Not Ed here, but my interest in gypsum is a result of a little bit of net research. I have an area that is so hard that the rain will simply lay on top. Very flat land and yes a heavy rain causes sheet type erosion.

Went ahead last fall and broke all the rules and moldboard plowed 8 acres of it, sort of a test area. Worked up nicely in the spring, corn planted 5-3, 6" rain on 5-4, amazingly the corn emerged well and has had a good season. Now the ground is solid as a brick.

I believe from reading that gypsum is just the ticket for my application by making the soil more permeable.

Sidenote........Corn in that field was 20.6 last week, figured I would wait another week, looks like we have a week of rain coming now. I hope the wind doesn't get out of hand this late in the season.........

Jon.....what is your view on gypsum?????? any available in your neighborhood???? Thanks, Joe
