just a tish NE of central ND
Im pretty sure it doesn't work that way, hens lay eggs,Klucks sit and hatch them. I remember that a kluck would find a nest of eggs and sit there by herself sometimes. I also remember that when were kids and the folks had klucks( they didnt want them) they would pen them up in a seperate cage and feed them heavy with wheat and oats and laying mash and they would start laying eggs again. a kluck does not lay when she becomes a kluck......But for the life of me I cant remember how that stuff all works since we bought our chicks (laying and butcher flock)from the time I was very young on. Kluck hatching only happened accidently around here. Was pretty cool to see a hen come walking with her chicks following her around the yard. Usually they were hatched in a straw stack where we didnt know there was a chicken nesting and laying eggs.Rosters were promptly butchered after that happened.Fertile eggs dont store as long as unfertilized eggs do.
