This % of std moisture for corn seems to be very controversial and has been for a long time. I've heard various explanations. I think someone pointed out to me that in the standard of weights & measurements of grain by USDA, there is NO mention of corn moisture. The NCGA, I believe, has deemed that 15.5% shall be used for #2 conversion for all yield adjustments for contests. Locally elevators consider #2 (non-discountable) as: 14.5% 15.0% 15.5% It depends on where you go & the time of the yr. If anyone finds anything different in USA standards for moisture, I'm always interested in hearing it. I'm also sure I've read that if you heat corn in a microwave & do not burn it, you'll end up with 47.32# of dry matter from one bus. |
