Dan, we have never don a fall / sidedress comparison in the same field though we have done checks with the same varietys. We have done a couple comparrisons with fall / preplant in the same field but they were not replicated. Would be easier to do today with autosteer. Also have done fall with & w/o N-Serve & preplant with & w/o N-Serve.

Our soil cinsultant has never mentioned how different varietys compare as far as tissue test. His main concern is that the tests are done at the same growth stage year to year.

Concerning nitrogen rates. we use to think that the lighter soils took less N as they didn't have the productivity potential as the better soils. The last few years he has been recomending as much as 25# more of AA on the lighter soils than the heavier ground Most of the time the lightersoils are also getting 50# more DAP per ac than the black soils as well.
