southern MN | Would this be a revolving 40 acres, not the same every year? That would be the sensable thing to do, mix up the fields.
As a dairy farm, wheat stubble is a great place to put manure during the late summer.
Or, alfalfa is planted with or after the wheat.
I would want to know what previous crop I'm getting to plant into, and it's manure history. That would affect the inputs.
Perhaps a custom farming deal would work out best for them, they control all the inputs to keep this from being too complicated? I can see so many different things - for how dairy is run locally anyhow.
