Little River, TX | Soils that are naturally high in calcium and pH are difficult at best to lower the pH, permanently.
We have people who move here who wish to grow blue berries of azaleas. Even dumping sulfur on their soil and using lots of peat moss their soil returns to the starting pH in a year or less.
I would suggest 1,500 lbs/A of anhydrous would do more to lower the pH than ammonium sulfate will. Though 2,000 lbs of ammonium sulfate might make a difference, for a while anyway.
My soil here drifts between 7.8 & 8.1 pH, simply with normal cultural practices and differences in weather.
