Subject: Crops along Illinois 136

cropsey, il 61731
I had to go from farmer city to rushville, il mostly on IL 136 on my motorcycle. I had been down the same route in July and the corn looked impressive, but now it looks like there was much more corn borer (and less bt corn) than last year and there were a lot of tops knocked over. Also, the stalks didn't look all that beefy with a lot of leaves gone also. It will probably all yield over 200bpa, but it just didn't look as good as I thought it would. I also noticed more herbicide failure than I expected (grass in the harvested fields). I don't know all the weather conditions along this route, but I thought they got about the same or more rain than we did (north of gibson city) - or at least that's what it looked like on accuweather.

There was some harvest activity, but there were lots of fields that had the end rows off only to expose pretty green corn. It's going to be tough this year determining when to start to minimized drying cost while maintaining standability.

just another 55-75mph crop report,

Pat
