I've never used "crop oil".  But sure wouldn't hurt to try the 24D/oil mix,, just use plenty of crop oil. Put it small container shake up very well, and give it a shot in a backpack sprayer.

I do know the 4/4 mix 24D spreader/sticker will work. I've killed plenty of that miserable joint grass with it. Killed as in dead killed,, didn't come back.  I usually mix up 40-60 gal in  a tractor 3 point hitch tank and spot spray the krap out of the jointgrass. 

Long as the joint grass is "active" it's a good time to kill it.
