Hay Wilson in TX

Subject: RE: Wet hay

Little River, TX
Rain on the hay will wash out minerals and proteins. It will color the hay and there will not be a market for the hay.

RB's should be about 2% lower moisture content if you wish to avoid mold.
You can stack the hay under a tarp and shoot some anhydrous too kill the mold.
If you have a way to apply buffered acid to the hay and bale it up to 30% moisture with reasonable economy.
If you are baling bermudagrass it will form a good thatch and will weather the storm as long as water does not rise up on the hay.

If you are putting up a rough grass hay or alfalfa it would be a good idea to tarp the hay.

Remember preservatives are not the answer to your prayers but it is a useful tool.

They are forecasting 7 - 8" of rain Friday night to Monday morning for CenTex.

It is good to be prepared but no need to get excited, yet. The storm could go up between Houston & Lake Charles, or even up the Rio Grand valley, depending on the steering winds.
