Subject: Ratios for corn

Ashburn, GA, (very close to Heaven!)

Fla Veggie Farmer - 9/9/2008 22:56 5-10-15 100 lb of N
200 lb of P
300 lb of K
Who came up with that ratio for corn?....

Uh, nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with that ratio if that fits your nutrient requirements. Have you looked at our soil tests? How would you know? I look at hundreds of soil tests for corn, literally, every year, and I don't know in advance enough to automatically discount the wisdom of such a ratio.

The thing I have problems with putting out so heavy on zinc, maybe other metals that can have long term adverse effects. I also do not like paying for "filler" that is worth NOTHING.

Our soils fluctuate a lot, especially in K, Ca, Mg.
