Ontario, Canada | This system gives us more options. We can sell to a local elevator or to the board. If we sell to the board we can forward contract or make a cash sale even thaough the grain is handled by the elevator. We can also go in the pool and we are paid the average price of the sale of all pooled wheat. This is done through an initial payment at time of delivery and a final payment after the end of the pool year. If we wish to store wheat off farm we must due it at the elevator and sell to the elevator. The wheat board does not allow storage, it's either cash or pool unless it was forward contracted. I think it's a good system because the board is like having another buyer in the marketplace and sometimes their price is much better than the local elevator price. | |
