Subject: RE: bin run wheat seed

NE Colorado
Lets do look at this without assuming any yield increase. In my area of the high plains certified seed cost about $5.00 per acre more than farmer saved bin run seed. For this amount you get well cleaned seed of guarenteed variety and germination, zero weed seeds of any kind and seed of uniform size. Of all the input costs we have to deal with getting the crop started with good seed for $5.00 seems to be a good investment. In the interest of full disclosure I am a certified seed grower and am proud of the care we put into providing the best seed possible. You can always tell the long term users of bin run seed fields by the amount of jointed goat grass, feral rye , and cheat grass present at harvest time.
