Don't let some of the boobirds here get you down. It can be done, I know a 1/2 dozen guys who have done just what you are talking about. Only one has moved beyond the hobby thing to a full time endeavor-but the hobby can be pretty rewarding....although maybe not financially. :)

It is a lot different than it was 10 years ago.

Do a lot of reading, get some time working for another farmer-I am sure you can find one around who will let you work for free, keep saving your money. If after a couple years you still want to do it spend a couple months and lots of hours buried in spreadsheets and see what you can make work. If you are married be sure and include her in every step and discussion.

Farm Credit Services would be a good place to go get some advice, they helped me a lot.

5 years ago I was where you are (but about 10 years older)-big difference is I had some family land-don't know your financials but man that is the biggest hurdle.

It can be done.
