| One of the statements above asks the question I have always wondered too, about the difference between "bin-run" and certified in the tests. Was the bin-run cleaned and treated, or straight off the combine. I save most of my seed, just buy enough certified (or even foundation) seed when I want a new variety. The seed I save is from ground that was out of wheat for a year or more, and I have it cleaned. The only difference between the saved seed and certified that I see is that I know it is not perfectly all one variety, as I may not clean the combine out. Although that is not completely true, as I usually cut a binful and send it to town before I start binning. I have tried some "straight off the combine" bin run to finish out seeding one year, and I had enough trash to cause some seeding problems. But, I guess, I could have done a better job with the combine if I had known it would go straight into the drill. | |
