Seems like hay would be a good crop over in your part of the state. Not as much risk or equipment outlay for hay compared to some other crops. But I don't know if you want to make money or just prevent from going backwards and keeping your town job. I'm 3rd generation and we've farmed in 3 states, tried I don't know how many different crops, and its a hard life. If you're married, full time farming can have a heavy toll on your family life, especially if she comes from a non farm background. I don't want to try to talk you out of farming, but I hate for people to have bad surprises. |
