Lance , from your short bio, my suggestion would be to invest in your 401K at work. Farming is not an easy business for someone with years of experience, let alone trying it with no experience.
If you are sincere and determined to get into farming I would suggest you find a farmer in your area that is looking for someone to work into their operation, in a few years, when they retire. A few months or years of this would convince you of your dedication or lack of in such a venture.
I'm not saying it can't be done by a novice, just question your knowledge of what's involved, some compare farming to a trip to the local casino, just takes longer for the wheel to quit spinning to see where you're at.
I do have to admire an individual wanting to farm that has no background in it.
Les said it perfectly, I'm 60 years old and my dad helped me to get started, there is no way I'd try it today without help from family or a farmer nearing retirement.
