S.W. Manitoba | in the same situation as you. I have lots of family back in Ontario that farm but its so expensive there. Moved to Manitoba where land is cheaper. But its doubled in the past 3 years. Fertilizer prices are up, fuel is up and commodity prices are up. But crop prices wont stay up for ever. I work for a farmer but not for ever. I weighed my options, buy a farm and work my arse off and wear myself out early and live pour and not have much to show for it in the end. Or not farm, work in AG somewhere, invest in RRSP and buy a little hobby farm with a few cows to fill my spare time and have a nice life. Figure i'll do that. Plus theres only 2 ways for a young guy to start on his own, win the lottery or marry a farm girl who has no brothers.
