Subject: Re: Info on feeding Syrup (CDS)

Missouri
I have experience using CDS on low quality forage, Corn Stalks,Wheat Straw and Poor Hay made a pile (100 tons added 50 ton CDS, 2 Loads) and the cows not only survived last winter on junk they gained weight. Had lots of good information before and while doing it, so it was actually not very risky or difficult. Truck driver and assistant had been busy putting it on silage and haylage all over. Should be able to make it work. Been used around Iowa feedlots for years. Multiple methods of handling from tanks underground to just putting it on chopped silage, or like we did it put direct into fresh ground hay. Figuring out how best to handle the product which is very hot when delivered when if flows the best, to dealing with a product that is very messy is the greatest challenge. Working with the product in cold weather can be challenging. By putting it on a pile early fall we got it purchased and delivered just prior to the price going up as others are buying it for winter only, using the tank-pump as needed system. It is common to have paid nutritionist that advise the yards on the formula with all foodstuffs in areas of lots of cattle. Figure it is money well spent if you have any numbers to work with. Good Luck
