Its not so much the half a mile walk that bothers me, its how water them at that location. Do you use a large water tank? If so how do you keep it from freezing? It would be a long distance for me to run electricity for a heater. A frost free fountain like a mira fountain might be an idea but I think they might even freeze out in the open. Also I am not sure if it was only a two or four hole fountain if all of the cows would get a chance to drink. I guess if they were thirsty enough they would wait their turn. Also what is the Max distance that you make your dry cows walk in the winter? I have more adjoining fields that I can also fence in.
