Subject: RE: WATER BEDS IN FREE STALLS

I have been in several barns that have waterbeds in the stalls, both tie stall and free stall. Over all I am hearing and seeing good things about them. The main drawbacks are the cost and the fact that you need to use an organic bedding material with them.

As for neck rail placement- in mattress stalls the current recommendation is 50 inches above the mattress and from 68 to 72 inches from the rear curb, depending on the size of the cow.

I will email you a good paper that discusses stall design as it relates to cow size.

If you need additional detail please email or ask here. I will do my best to find answers.
